Dr Dylan Arena (Kidaptive)
Chief Learning Scientist and Co-Founder of Kidaptive
Dylan Arena is Chief Learning Scientist at Kidaptive, which he co-founded in 2011. Kidaptive builds technology that uses research-based machine learning to help creators of educational products personalize their offerings; give meaning to their data; and empower learners, teachers, and parents. After earning a B.S. in Symbolic Systems and an M.A. in Philosophy, both from Stanford University, Dylan worked as a software developer at Oracle Corporation for a few years before returning to Stanford for an M.S. in Statistics and a Ph.D. in Learning Sciences and Technology Design. Dylan's doctoral research focused on game-based learning and next-generation assessment. Dylan then co-founded Kidaptive, where he oversees all issues related to learning, assessment, and reporting.
Dylan tries to get into classrooms once a month as a certified substitute teacher. He has also served on the board of a local charter school and been an advisor for Digital Promise Global and the Joan Ganz Cooney Center. In his school days, Dylan was a MacArthur Emerging Scholar in Digital Media and Learning, a Gordon Commission Science and Technology Fellow, a Stanford Graduate Fellow in Science and Engineering, a Gerald J. Lieberman Fellow, a FrameWorks Fellow, and a United States Presidential Scholar.
